Former Tesla Core Member Re-enters the Fray with Chinese Supply Chain
Several years ago, Zhang Haixing was invited by Elon Musk to serve as the lead in establishing the Tesla China Design Center and spearheaded projects related to the Optimus humanoid robot. After leaving Tesla in 2024, he leveraged his accumulated experience to found Matrix Super Intelligence, a humanoid robotics company. Now, he is embarking on another venture, officially challenging Figure AI and Optimus.
On November 3rd, the domestic humanoid robot company Star Dynamics Technology Co., Ltd. officially commenced operations in the Qianwan New Area of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. This new company was jointly established by Hongrun Construction and Matrix Super Intelligence, with Hongrun Construction holding a 60% stake and Matrix Super Intelligence holding 40%. The former leads strategy and resource integration, while the latter is responsible for technological development and team building.
Concurrently, Star Dynamics' first humanoid robot, the "Star Dynamics Interstellar No. 1," was officially unveiled on the same day.
Zhang Haixing told a Jiemian News reporter that Star Dynamics is committed to creating a general AGI humanoid robot for the physical world and does not want to merely tell stories at the forefront of the AI wave. "We have the capability to produce real robots that, like Figure AI and Optimus, can work, be replicated, and be delivered," he said.
Jiemian News learned that at WAIC 2025 in July this year, Matrix Super Intelligence officially publicly released its self-developed new generation humanoid robot, the MATRIX-1. According to official introductions, this robot is designed to compete with the Figure 02 humanoid robot.
