National Energy Administration: Electricity Market Trading Volume from Jan-Sept Increased 7.2% Year-on-Year

Data from the National Energy Administration shows that in September 2025, China's electricity market trading volume reached 573.2 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%. By trading scope, intra-provincial trading volume was 430.3 billion kWh, up 7.2% year-on-year; inter-provincial and cross-regional trading volume was 142.9 billion kWh, up 18.5% year-on-year. By trading type, medium- to long-term trading volume was 533.1 billion kWh; spot trading volume was 40.1 billion kWh. Green electricity trading volume was 29.0 billion kWh, surging 42.9% year-on-year.

From January to September 2025, the cumulative national electricity market trading volume was 4,923.9 billion kWh, representing a 7.2% year-on-year increase. This volume accounted for 63.4% of the total electricity consumption in society, up 1.4 percentage points from the same period last year. By trading scope, intra-provincial trading volume was 3,728.9 billion kWh, up 5.7% year-on-year; inter-provincial and cross-regional trading volume was 1,195.0 billion kWh, up 12.1% year-on-year. By trading type, medium- to long-term trading volume was 4,723.4 billion kWh; spot trading volume was 200.5 billion kWh. Green electricity trading volume reached 234.8 billion kWh, a significant increase of 40.6% year-on-year.
