Zimbabwe Holds "Anti-Sanctions Day" Event, Urging Western Countries to Lift Illegal Sanctions
October 25th is the "Anti-Sanctions Day" designated by the Southern African Development Community (SADC). On that day, tens of thousands of Zimbabweans gathered in the capital, Harare, to show support for the Zimbabwean government and urge Western countries to immediately and unconditionally lift the illegal and unjust sanctions against the country.
Zimbabwean President Mnangagwa delivered a speech on the same day, stating that as long as Zimbabwe and SADC members share common goals, coexist peacefully, remain diligent and honest, show resilience, and embrace innovation, difficulties of any form can be overcome.
Elias M. Magosi, the Executive Secretary of SADC, also issued a statement on the same day. He pointed out that the sanctions continue to harm Zimbabwe's economic potential and regional integration process. These evolving sanctions represent a destabilizing force not only for Zimbabwe but for the entire Southern African development region.
In 2019, the Southern African Development Community declared October 25th as "Anti-Sanctions Day," aiming to collectively call for the unconditional lifting of long-term sanctions against Zimbabwe.
