
At midnight Beijing time on October 24, all three major U.S. stock indices ended higher, with the Dow up 0.31%, the S&P 500 up 0.58%, and the Nasdaq up 0.89%.
U.S. large-cap tech stocks generally rose, with the U.S. Tech Seven Giants Index up 0.70%. In terms of individual stocks, Tesla rose over 2%, Amazon and Nvidia gained over 1%, Google rose 0.55%, Apple increased 0.44%, Facebook edged up 0.08%, and Microsoft remained flat.
Energy stocks collectively advanced, with ExxonMobil up over 1%, Chevron up 0.63%, ConocoPhillips up over 3%, Schlumberger up more than 3%, and Occidental Petroleum up over 2%.
Airline stocks were mixed, with Boeing up 0.54%, American Airlines up over 5%, Delta Air Lines down more than 2%, Southwest Airlines down over 6%, and United Airlines down 0.61%.
Chip stocks mostly rose, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index up 2.54%. Lam Research gained over 4%, Micron Technology rose more than 4%, KLA Corporation advanced over 4%, Intel increased more than 3%, and Advanced Micro Devices rose over 2%.
On the news front, Intel reported third-quarter revenue of $13.65 billion, up 2.8% year-over-year. The adjusted operating margin for the third quarter was 11.2%, compared to an estimate of 3.07%. The adjusted gross margin for the third quarter was 40%, versus an estimate of 36.1%. The company expects fourth-quarter revenue to be between $12.8 billion and $13.8 billion. It forecasts adjusted earnings per share of $0.080 for the fourth quarter, compared to an estimate of $0.10. The adjusted gross margin for the fourth quarter is projected to be 36.5%, versus an estimate of 37%.
