Trump Claims to Have "Worked Magic" in Reaching Deal to Lower Beef Prices

US President Trump stated during an event in the White House Oval Office that his administration has reached a deal to lower beef prices for consumers. Trump did not provide details on what measures the federal government had taken but acknowledged that beef has been an area where his efforts to combat inflation have fallen short.

Trump said, "We're working on beef, and I think we have a deal that will bring beef prices down. Beef is the only one where we'd say the price is a little bit higher than we want, or even too high, and its price will come down soon too. We did something, we worked magic."

A few days earlier, Trump hosted Argentine President Milei at the White House to discuss trade and financing. The United States is a major importer of Argentine beef, but imports are subject to annual quotas, with tariffs imposed beyond those limits. Due to drought and high costs, American ranchers have had to slaughter more cattle. As of July, the U.S. cattle inventory fell to the lowest midyear level since records began in 1973. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price U.S. consumers paid for ground beef hit a record of $6.318 per pound in August.
