According to Wind data, the CSI A500 ETF (159338) saw intraday inflows of 153 million units and net intraday inflows of 102 million units, indicating capital is flocking to this more balanced broad-based index fund.

On the news front, CNN reported on October 12 that U.S. stock index futures rose after President Trump hinted at canceling the new tariffs on China. The report stated that Trump posted on Truth Social, saying, "Don't worry about China, everything will be just fine." Subsequently, U.S. stock index futures increased.

Previously, on October 10, Trump suddenly threatened to impose 100% tariffs on China, with the new tariffs set to take effect on November 1. At that time, U.S. stocks experienced a sharp decline.

On October 12, China responded, stating that frequently threatening with high tariffs is not the right way to deal with China and urging the U.S. to correct its wrong practices as soon as possible. Regarding the tariff war, China's stance is consistent: we do not want to fight one, but we are not afraid to fight one. If the U.S. persists unilaterally, China will firmly take corresponding measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.

Relevant institutions indicated that subsequent developments in Sino-U.S. tariff negotiations need close monitoring. The threatened tariffs should be viewed as a bargaining chip rather than an end goal, and the probability of the 100% tariffs being implemented is low. Trump has announced the additional 100% tariffs on China effective November 1, but it is highly likely that he will still choose to negotiate with China before November 1. Against the backdrop of rising short-term tariff risks, the volatility of equity assets may be amplified. In the medium term, Trump is likely to quit while he's ahead to prevent internal risks from spiraling out of control. There is no need to be overly pessimistic about equity assets.
