Hamas: Hopes to Obtain Tangible Commitment from Israel to Not Resume Conflict

On the evening of October 7th local time, Hamas's chief negotiator, Khalil Al-Hayya, stated after concluding the second day of talks with the Israeli side that the meetings in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, "aim to engage in responsible negotiations to achieve a ceasefire."

Al-Hayya appreciated the efforts made by Arab and Islamic countries, as well as other parties, to promote a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He pointed out that the current goals are to end the conflict, exchange prisoners of war, and release Israeli detainees. Hamas hopes to establish mechanisms ensuring a permanent ceasefire and "obtain a tangible commitment from Israel to not resume the conflict."

The latest round of Gaza ceasefire talks took place on the 6th and 7th in the coastal city of Sharm El-Sheikh in northern Egypt and are expected to continue on the 8th.
