Argentine Government's Trust Index Hits Lowest Level Since Taking Office in August

A report released by Argentina's Torcuato Di Tella University on August 25 showed that the Milei government's trust index for August was 2.12 points (on a 0-5 scale), a decrease of nearly 14% compared to July, marking the lowest level since taking office.

Recently, Argentina's Clarín exposed a medical corruption scandal involving high-level government officials. According to an audio recording released by Argentine journalist Mauro Federico and others on the 19th, President Milei's sister and Presidential Secretary Karina Milei, along with Diego Spagnolo, head of Argentina's National Disability Agency, are suspected of accepting bribes from medical companies. Local media reported that the recording mentioned Karina receiving bribes amounting to "500,000 to 800,000 USD" and stated that Milei "was not involved" but was aware of the situation.

Following the release of the recording, Milei dismissed Spagnolo from his position on the 21st.

Currently, the court's investigation into Karina and other officials涉嫌接受巨额贿赂 is ongoing.

Milei was sworn in on December 10, 2023, officially beginning his four-year presidential term. Argentina's new government also took office on the same day.
