Australia Post Announces Suspension of Most Parcel Deliveries to the U.S.

On the 26th, Australia Post announced the immediate suspension of most parcel services to the United States, with the exception of letters, documents, and parcels declared as gifts with a value below $100.

In a statement, Australia Post stated that this move is in response to significant adjustments by the U.S. government to customs and tariff rules for inbound parcels. The changes include the elimination of duty-free treatment for small packages valued under $800 and the requirement for all items to prepay tariffs before arriving in the U.S.

The statement noted that the suspension also applies to Puerto Rico, as it falls under U.S. customs jurisdiction and is similarly affected by the new tariff rules.

Starting August 29, the U.S. will suspend duty-free treatment for imported parcels valued at $800 or less. From that date, small packages will be subject to all applicable taxes and duties. Affected by this change, postal operators in several European countries have recently announced the suspension of parcel services to the United States.
