Trump Threatens to Dismiss Federal Reserve Governor Cook

According to Xinhua News Agency, U.S. President Trump stated on the 22nd that if Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook does not resign, "I will dismiss her."

That day, Trump made a surprise visit to a White House-themed museum just one block away from the White House. When answering questions from reporters, he said, "Her (Cook's) actions are terrible... If she doesn't resign, I will dismiss her."

On the 20th, Bill Pult, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, publicly accused Cook of simultaneously declaring two properties as her "primary residence" to obtain more favorable loan rates and filed a criminal complaint with the Department of Justice. Later that day, Trump shared related reports on social media, stating that "Cook must resign." On the same day, Cook issued a statement saying she would not "be bullied into resigning because of a post raising some questions." On the 21st, the U.S. Department of Justice announced it would investigate Cook.

Cook was nominated by former President Biden in 2022 to serve as a Federal Reserve Governor and was approved by Congress. Among the current seven Federal Reserve Governors, only two were nominated by Trump.

Recently, dissatisfied with the Federal Reserve's refusal to cooperate with him in lowering benchmark interest rates, Trump has repeatedly猛烈抨击 Federal Reserve Chair Powell and called for his early resignation. Cook has stated that the trade policies Trump is advancing could抑制 U.S. productivity and might force the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates in an economy with declining efficiency to curb inflation.

On the 22nd, Powell delivered a speech at the Federal Reserve's annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, discussing the current economic situation and short-term outlook for the U.S., signaling a potential interest rate cut.
