World's First Humanoid Robot Games Opens With Surprising Flag Bearers
On the evening of August 14, the "2025 World Humanoid Robot Games" - the world's first comprehensive sports event featuring humanoid robots as competitors - officially opened at Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon"). A total of 280 teams from 16 countries gathered in Beijing for 487 competitions across 26 events in categories including competitive matches, exhibition matches, scenario challenges, and peripheral contests from August 15-17, showcasing cutting-edge advancements in humanoid robots' intelligent decision-making and motion coordination.

The opening ceremony, themed "Intelligent Competition for the Future," saw over 100 teams illuminate the "Ice Ribbon" with dazzling robotic performances. Humanoid robots showcased breakdancing and Chinese opera, while collaborating with professional dance troupes to vividly demonstrate the fusion of technology and human civilization.
The performance "Welcome to the Carbon-Based World" featured seamless coordination between human dancers and robots in a "dialogue between carbon and silicon." The cultural innovation show "Harmony of Wisdom" became a highlight - with Rock Robot Band and dexterous-hand robots performing traditional Chinese melodies, Leju robots demonstrating Tai Chi, Ubtech's panda robots practicing martial arts alongside young performers, and opera-style "Mu Guiying" robots singing the classic aria "Mu Guiying Takes Command" with child actors, perfectly blending millennia-old culture with modern technology.
The fashion show "Celestial Craftsmanship" masterfully integrated intangible cultural heritage with futuristic design. Robots modeled customized outfits combining 3D printing and handcraft - from peony-patterned robes to Hakka tulou-inspired designs, and scale-armor suits blending feather motifs with modern aesthetics to Dunhuang Mogao Caves-inspired costumes - transforming robot models into mobile "cultural-tech exhibitions" that demonstrated embodied AI's potential in fashion.
