Trump Orders Deployment of Two Nuclear Submarines in Response to Medvedev’s "Highly Provocative" Remarks

On the 1st, U.S. President Trump posted on social media that, in light of the "highly provocative" remarks by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, he had "ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to appropriate areas."

However, Trump did not specify whether these submarines were strategic nuclear submarines armed with nuclear weapons or attack submarines equipped with conventional weapons. Additionally, he did not clarify the exact deployment locations.

Previously, Trump had threatened to impose "very severe" tariffs on Russia if it failed to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine within 50 days, later shortening the deadline to 10-12 days. In response, Medvedev stated on social media that every ultimatum from Trump to Russia constituted a threat. He added that the timing of Russia’s return to negotiations should not be dictated by Trump.

On the 1st, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov referenced U.S. Secretary of State Rubio’s recent statement that direct military confrontation between the U.S. and Russia must be avoided. Lavrov responded, "We fully agree with this."

Meanwhile, according to the Russian presidential website, President Putin, during a press conference on August 1 after meeting with Belarusian President Lukashenko on Valaam Island, stated that Russia remains open to dialogue with Ukraine. If Ukraine currently sees no need for contact, Russia is willing to wait patiently.

Putin emphasized that Russia-Ukraine negotiations are essential and crucial for peacefully resolving issues. Previous talks had yielded positive outcomes, including the exchange of fallen soldiers’ remains and prisoners of war.

He noted that Ukraine had responded positively to Russia’s proposal to establish a dedicated working group, but the mechanism has yet to begin substantive operations. Putin reiterated, "It is vital to address the root causes of the current crisis."

Lukashenko expressed support for Putin’s stance on negotiations with Ukraine.
