Trump Fires Official Over Unsatisfactory Data!

U.S. President Donald Trump received a batch of disappointing economic data this Friday. His response? Instead of reflecting on whether his policies might have shortcomings or debatable aspects, he directly fired the official responsible for compiling these statistics...

On Friday, as Trump officially announced the dismissal of Erica McEntaffer, Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U.S. public opinion erupted in an uproar. Many economists and market participants expressed strong concerns about the future authenticity and integrity of U.S. economic data...

The incident stemmed from the BLS's release of unusually weak nonfarm payroll data on Friday. The report showed that the U.S. added only 73,000 jobs in July, far below market expectations. Additionally, the BLS sharply revised down the May and June payroll figures—a combined reduction of 258,000 jobs. The BLS stated in its report that such revisions were "based on subsequent reports from businesses and government agencies, as well as recalculations of seasonal factors."

However, the dismal employment data clearly hit a nerve with Trump. He later posted online, claiming that the numbers were "manipulated" to embarrass him and the Republicans. On social media, he ordered his team to "immediately" fire Erica McEntaffer, the BLS Commissioner appointed by Joe Biden, and declared that "such critical data must be fair and accurate, not manipulated for political purposes."

Later on Friday evening, the U.S. Department of Labor confirmed that McEntaffer had been dismissed, with Deputy Commissioner William Wiatrowski temporarily taking over until a successor is found.
