Digging Deeper into Tottenham Owner Joe Lewis (Part 2)
Diversified Investments: Balancing Business and Leisure

Joe Lewis is a financial speculator, and he takes pride in this identity.

In just two years, from 2013 to 2015, Lewis's wealth surged from £2.9 billion to £4.9 billion, placing him among the top 10 richest people in the UK and ranking third in the Premier League owners' wealth list.

A well-known market analyst once commented on him: "He is the same type as Soros—they trade with extremely high leverage using their own accounts."

Joe Lewis rarely discusses his trading history publicly. However, he has admitted that, apart from 1992, the 1995 Mexican financial crisis also brought him another massive financial windfall.

By the end of 1994, Mexico was already deep in deficit, and speculators believed the peso lacked government support and would plummet. Joe Lewis seized this opportunity, successfully shorting the peso, and his wealth multiplied once again.

The UK's Independent reported that Joe Lewis has screens installed in every room of his home, allowing him to monitor global currency movements at all times.

The global economic and political landscape is always volatile. Successful traders inevitably have insights into the forex market—they can even influence traders' decisions, with an impact comparable to that of some central banks.

What’s most astonishing about Lewis is his diverse investment portfolio. He owns over 200 companies worldwide and multiple luxury resorts. He is passionate about collecting art and yachts—his art collection is reportedly worth $1 billion, including works by Picasso, Paul Cézanne, and Lucian Freud.

He also owns several superyachts, one of which is worth over $100 million, nearly 100 meters long, accommodates 16 people, and can reach a top speed of 20 knots (23 mph). His mobile office is set up on one of his yachts, allowing him to conduct business while traveling the world—with his most prized artworks by his side. He has no fixed office; his favorite way to work is on his yacht, trading forex while sailing the globe.

Among top forex traders, Joe Lewis stands out as unique—he dropped out of school and holds no degree in finance or economics. His journey proves that formal education is not a prerequisite for success.
