Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Once Again Urges Japan to Seriously Reflect, Correct Its Mistakes, and Fulfill Its Obligations as a Defeated Nation
On December 2, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian presided over the regular press conference.
Lin Jian stated that, in fact, since Japan's defeat, right-wing forces have continuously sought to whitewash its history of aggression. In recent years, Japan has increased its defense budget for 13 consecutive years, loosened restrictions on collective self-defense, repeatedly relaxed arms export controls, developed so-called "counterstrike capabilities," and plotted to revise the "Three Non-Nuclear Principles." These actions have gradually hollowed out the terms clearly stipulated for Japan in the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, violating its own commitments under the Japanese Constitution. It is Japan itself that is "expanding military power," "coercing other countries," and "attempting to unilaterally change the status quo despite opposition from neighboring countries."
In light of this, China’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations has once again sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General, reiterating China’s solemn stance. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. China firmly opposes Japan’s regressive actions that challenge the post-war international order and revive militarism. We once again urge Japan to seriously reflect, correct its mistakes, fulfill its obligations as a defeated nation, and honor its commitments to China and the international community with concrete actions, rather than repeatedly betraying trust.
