Singapore to Ban Secondary School Students from Using Smartphones or Smartwatches on Campus
On November 30, Singapore’s Ministry of Education announced that starting from January 2026, secondary school students will be prohibited from using smartphones or smartwatches on campus. The ministry requires all secondary students to refrain from using smartphones or smartwatches during classes, breaks, and after-school academic activities held on campus.
In addition, the Ministry of Education stated that from January 2026, the automatic shut-off time for digital applications used by secondary students for personal learning will be moved forward from 23:00 to 22:30.
Starting this January, Singapore’s Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Social and Family Development have jointly launched a plan to implement stricter management guidelines for secondary school students’ use of smartphones and smartwatches.
