What is Trump's "Project Genesis"?

The White House stated that it is a new national plan aimed at utilizing artificial intelligence to transform the way scientific research is conducted and to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery. For example, it seeks to increase the approval speed for new drugs, which has been "stagnant or declining" over the past few decades.

Under "Project Genesis," the Department of Energy will create a closed-loop AI experimental platform that integrates U.S. supercomputers and data assets to generate scientific foundation models and power robotic laboratories.

The executive order also directs the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) to coordinate national initiatives and the integration of data and infrastructure across federal government departments.

The Trump administration plans to use "Project Genesis" to significantly enhance the efficiency and impact of federal research and development within a decade.

Earlier that day, Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, described the Trump administration's new AI project in a call with reporters as "the largest mobilization of federal scientific resources since the Apollo Program."

An unnamed senior U.S. official added that the plan would collaborate with American private companies such as NVIDIA, Dell, HPE, and AMD to enhance the supercomputing capabilities of national laboratories. Recent technical solutions released by these companies demonstrate potential collaboration models.
