Release of China-Japan Public Opinion Survey Results and Postponement of Beijing-Tokyo Forum
On November 17, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning presided over the regular press conference.
The Asahi Shimbun asked: The release of the China-Japan Joint Public Opinion Survey results and the Beijing-Tokyo Forum have both been postponed at China's request. How does the Foreign Ministry view the significance of the survey and the forum? And what is the Ministry's comment on the postponement?
In response, Mao Ning said: "Regarding the joint public opinion survey you mentioned, I want to say that the recent provocative remarks concerning Taiwan made by Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae have severely undermined the political foundation of China-Japan relations and damaged the public opinion atmosphere in both countries."
Mao Ning pointed out that the environment and conditions for releasing the previous China-Japan Joint Public Opinion Survey results have significantly changed. The relevance of the related results and the timing of their release need to be reconsidered. The responsibility for this lies entirely with the wrong remarks made by Japanese leaders.
"As for the Beijing-Tokyo Forum, I believe this decision was made after consultations between the organizers," she said.
