Russia Announces Readiness to Transfer Nuclear Technology to India

According to a report on the Russia Today website on November 10, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Russia's state nuclear giant Rosatom, stated that cooperation between Russia and India in the nuclear energy sector is reaching a new level, which may involve a higher degree of localization and technology transfer.

The report mentioned that Likhachev made these remarks during a working meeting with Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Chairman of the Indian Atomic Energy Commission, in Mumbai. Both sides assessed bilateral projects ahead of a planned summit next month between Russian President Putin and Indian Prime Minister Modi.

Moscow and New Delhi are negotiating new projects. Likhachev said, "In addition to traditional areas, we are discussing small nuclear power plants, including land-based and floating ones. This is a unique capability of Rosatom." He noted that over the past five years, Russia has been operating a floating nuclear power plant, the "Akademik Lomonosov," in the Arctic port city of Pevek.

Likhachev also stated that Rosatom sees significant potential for increasing the level of localization of Russian technology in India, particularly in small-scale facilities.
