US Media Outlet Refutes Claims of Declining Inflation in America
Fox News recently cited the latest inflation data from the U.S. Department of Labor in a program, reporting on the significant recent price increases in the United States and refuting President Donald Trump's statements about a substantial decline in inflation.
In a speech on the 6th, Trump claimed that prices for "all goods" were falling. In a subsequent program, a Fox News host stated that the September inflation data from the U.S. Department of Labor showed coffee prices had risen by 18.9%, natural gas prices by 11.7%, electricity costs by 5.1%, and auto repair costs by 11.5%.
Furthermore, data released by the U.S. Department of Labor on October 24 showed that the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 3% year-over-year in September, reaching its highest level since January.
CNN reported that Americans are not only complaining about high prices but their consumption behavior is also changing as a result. Last month, consumer brands like Chipotle, Coca-Cola, and Crocs stated during conference calls with Wall Street analysts that middle and low-income consumers are no longer willing to purchase their products.
Simultaneously, social security benefits provided by the U.S. federal government are also continuously decreasing. For example, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which covers one-eighth of the total U.S. population—most of whom have incomes below the poverty line—suspended benefit payments starting November 1st. This is the first suspension in the program's 60-year history. Among some vulnerable groups in the U.S., loan defaults and late payments are showing an upward trend.
According to the latest inflation report from the international credit rating agency Moody's, American households now need to spend an additional $208 per month to purchase the same goods and services they did in September 2024. In September 2024, during his presidential campaign, Trump claimed that inflation was out of control.
