Japanese Scallops Exported to China
On November 7, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning presided over the regular press conference. A reporter from Nippon TV asked: The Japanese government announced that a batch of Japanese scallops has recently been exported to China. This marks the first export of Japanese aquatic products to China since China imposed an import ban on Japanese aquatic products two years ago. What is China’s comment on this?
"Regarding the export of Japanese aquatic products to China, the Chinese side has already issued an announcement previously," Mao Ning emphasized. China will continue to participate in international monitoring of Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water and conduct independent sampling and monitoring. We hope Japan will consistently cooperate with international monitoring and China’s independent sampling efforts. We will also continue to work with the international community to urge Japan to consistently fulfill its commitments.
Mao Ning stressed, "The competent authorities of China will continue to strictly enforce laws and regulations, strengthen supervision over the import of Japanese aquatic products, and ensure the food safety of the public. Should any risks be detected, necessary import restriction measures will be immediately taken in accordance with the law."
