Lee Jae-myung: Peace is the Foundation for Building a Sustainable Tomorrow
GYEONGJU, South Korea, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Liu Xu -- The 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting concluded in Gyeongju, South Korea, on November 1. South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, delivering the closing summary speech, stated that the theme of this APEC meeting, "Building a Sustainable Tomorrow," is fundamentally based on "peace." He emphasized that only under the premise of peace can connectivity be further expanded and innovation momentum maximized, thereby achieving prosperity shared by all.
Lee Jae-myung expressed that peace on the Korean Peninsula will not only promote peace in Northeast Asia but will also extend into a path towards common prosperity for the Asia-Pacific region through cooperation and mutual benefit. He said, "Military confrontation and tension, as well as nuclear issues, constrain the stability and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula and even the entire Asia-Pacific region." "South Korea upholds the principle of resolving issues through dialogue, opening a 'new era on the Korean Peninsula' characterized by peaceful coexistence and common development."
Lee Jae-myung added that the South Korean government has already taken the lead in implementing measures to ease inter-Korean military tensions and rebuild trust (with North Korea). He stated that going forward, South Korea will continue to promote broader, more positive measures to safeguard peace.
