UNICEF: Over 60,000 Children in Gaza Killed or Injured in Israel-Palestine Conflict
UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires stated on the 7th that approximately 61,000 children in the Gaza Strip have been killed or injured since the new round of Israel-Palestine conflict erupted two years ago.
Speaking at a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland that day, Pires said that on average, one child is killed or injured every 17 minutes in the Gaza Strip due to the conflict, describing such figures as "shocking" and "unacceptable." He expressed deep regret over the prolonged physical and psychological suffering endured by local children, stating they have "endured horrors that no child should ever experience."
Pires also mentioned that in the Gaza Strip, one in every five newborns is premature, but the area lacks the necessary facilities to ensure their survival. "Children are having to share oxygen masks to stay alive," he said.
According to data released by the Palestinian Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip on the 7th, the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in over 67,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 169,000 injuries since the new round of Israel-Palestine conflict erupted on October 7, 2023.
