Israeli PM: Will Ensure Hamas is Disarmed
On the evening of October 4th local time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in a video address that he hopes to announce the return of all detainees within the coming days. Israel is "on the eve of a significant achievement," but the relevant arrangements have not yet been finalized.
Netanyahu said that, following coordination with US President Trump, Israel is promoting a "diplomatic move to turn the tide." While the Israeli military continues its operations deep into Gaza City, this move aims to prompt the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to release all detainees. Netanyahu believes that the only reason Hamas is willing to release all detainees is due to military and diplomatic pressure.
Netanyahu stated that in the first phase, all detainees will be released, and the Israeli military will adjust its deployment in Gaza, continuing to monitor the Gaza Strip. The goal of the second phase is to ensure that Hamas is disarmed and that Gaza is demilitarized.
Netanyahu indicated that he has directed the negotiation team led by Strategic Affairs Minister Dermer to go to Egypt for final consultations on technical details and has demanded that the negotiations be "completed within a set number of days."
