Last night and this morning, amid the fervor surrounding artificial intelligence, the S&P 500 index rose for the seventh consecutive trading day, jointly refreshing its closing historical high with the Nasdaq index.
As of the close, the S&P 500 index was up 0.36% at 6,740.28 points; the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 0.71% at 22,941.67 points; the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.14% at 46,694.97 points.
Furthermore, according to Xinhua News Agency, on October 6 local time, OpenAI's official website announced a cooperation agreement with AMD to deploy a total of 6GW of AMD GPU computing power, valued at hundreds of billions of US dollars.
Affected by this news, AMD's stock price surged over 36% intraday before pulling back. At the day's close, it was up 23.71%, with the stock price reported at $203.71 per share, and a total market capitalization exceeding $330 billion.
According to this clear agreement, OpenAI will act as AMD's core strategic computing partner, collaborating with AMD to promote the large-scale deployment of AMD technology and extend this cooperation to future generations of products. By sharing technical expertise to optimize their respective product roadmaps, AMD and OpenAI are deepening their multi-generational hardware and software collaboration. This partnership is a true win-win for both companies, capable of supporting very large-scale AI deployments and driving progress across the entire ecosystem.
As part of the agreement, to further align strategic interests, AMD issued a warrant to OpenAI for up to 160 million shares of AMD common stock. The exercise conditions of this warrant are linked to achieving specific milestones. The first tranche of exercises will occur after the initial deployment of 1 gigawatt is completed. Subsequent tranches will follow as the purchase scale expands to 6 gigawatts.
The exercise is further linked to AMD reaching specific stock price targets and OpenAI achieving necessary technical and commercial milestones to ensure AMD's deployment can be scaled effectively.
"Our collaboration with OpenAI is expected to bring hundreds of billions of US dollars in revenue to AMD, while accelerating the construction of OpenAI's AI infrastructure," said Jean Hu, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer of AMD. "This agreement creates significant strategic synergies and shareholder value for both AMD and OpenAI and is expected to substantially increase AMD's non-GAAP earnings per share."
