What Information is Worth Paying Attention to as Linea Approaches TGE?

  • 2025-09-09

A few days ago, Ethereum Layer 2 LINEA announced that its token will have its TGE on September 10, 2025, marking the official launch of the LINEA token. The airdrop eligibility checker is now live. Now, with just two days left until the LINEA TGE, what should users pay attention to? What are the latest developments for LINEA?

I. Linea Approaches TGE: What Information Do Users Need to Know?

  1. LINEA Token Allocation Rules
The LINEA token allocation scheme draws inspiration from Ethereum's genesis phase allocation logic — 85% of the token supply will be allocated to the ecosystem, of which:

10% is airdropped to early users and core developers, fully unlocked (no lock-up period);

The remaining 75% is allocated to the "Ecosystem Fund," the largest fund of its kind in the industry currently. From this 75% allocation, the Linea Consortium has approved 4% to reward liquidity providers participating in the "Linea Surge" activity; these tokens will be fully unlocked and distributed at TGE (Token Generation Event).

The Linea Consortium is composed of a group of trusted "Ethereum-native organizations," including Consensys, Eigen Labs, ENS (Ethereum Name Service), SharpLink, Status, etc. The Consortium will be responsible for managing the Ecosystem Fund to support the long-term development of the ecosystem and Ethereum public goods, with a fund distribution cycle lasting 10 years. It is important to note that the LINEA system does not have a "token holder governance" mechanism; instead, all strategic decisions are overseen by the Consortium to avoid potential drawbacks associated with "token voting."

Crucially: In this airdrop, the team and investors have not received any token allocation, and LINEA tokens have never been allocated or sold to employees or investors. Consensys Software (a software company under Consensys) will retain 15% of the tokens, subject to a 5-year lock-up period — demonstrating its long-term commitment to the Linea ecosystem.

This first LINEA airdrop for early community members aims to reward genuine usage and contribution, placing tokens directly into users' wallets to promote decentralization. The core of this airdrop revolves around participation in the Linea Voyage (LXP) and Linea Surge (LXP-L) activities, which are our transparent engagement recognition systems. To ensure tokens reach real early users who had confidence in the network and filter out Sybil attacks, eligibility requires meeting an activity threshold and successfully passing Proof of Humanity (PoH).

  1. LINEA Airdrop Activity Details
A total of 9,361,298,700 LINEA has been allocated and will be distributed among 749,662 eligible addresses.

LXP participants needed at least 2,000 LXP to qualify. This distribution is centered around LXP as a simple and transparent measure of participation. The minimum LXP threshold was set because analysis provided by Nansen indicated a high concentration of Sybil activity below this threshold.

Tiers: LXP holders are divided into seven tiers, with the amount of LINEA points received increasing tier by tier, recognizing their growing engagement and contribution.

Tier 1: 2,000 LXP
Tier 2: 3,000 LXP
Tier 3: 4,000 LXP
Tier 4: 4,500 LXP
Tier 5: 5,000 LXP
Tier 6: 6,500 LXP
Tier 7: 8,000 LXP and above

The reward mechanism was established to recognize different types of participation within the ecosystem.

Additional Rewards (Boosts): To acknowledge different forms of participation within the ecosystem, this airdrop includes three additional rewards, each increasing the LXP points by 10%:

Pre-Dencun Usage Boost: Users who had mainnet transaction records between the launch of the Linea mainnet and March 27, 2024.

Sustained Activity Boost: Users who conducted transactions on the Linea mainnet in at least 6 different months between August 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025 (months do not need to be consecutive).

MetaMask Product Usage Boost: Users who used MetaMask Swap or Bridge on Linea, or used MetaMask Staking or MetaMask Card before June 30, 2025. Using any one of these functions unlocks the 10% reward (multiple uses do not stack; only one 10% reward is granted).

Builder Airdrop: 1% of the LINEA token supply is separately allocated to strategic builders within the Linea ecosystem, including core applications and communities. These tokens will be distributed directly to wallets through a discretionary, curated process.

  1. LINEA Eligibility Check
The LINEA airdrop is distributed by the Linea Association. The eligibility check tool went live on September 3, 2025, allowing users to check their eligibility before the claim period opens.

Claim Window: Officially opens on September 10, 2025, and closes on December 9, 2025, at 23:59 (UTC timezone), lasting 90 days. The countdown starts from the moment "Claim Opens," not from "Wallet Connection."

Tokens not claimed by the deadline will be entirely returned to the Linea Consortium Ecosystem Fund and reinvested into the development of the Linea and Ethereum ecosystems.

II. LINEA Introduction and Overview of Developments

LINEA is an Ethereum Layer 2 solution based on zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) technology, designed to provide faster, lower-cost transactions while maintaining high compatibility and security with the Ethereum mainnet. As a zero-knowledge Rollup network, Linea bundles a large number of transactions into a single proof submitted to the Ethereum mainnet, thereby reducing transaction fees and increasing throughput. Linea states that its goal is to become an integral part of the Ethereum ecosystem, promoting Ethereum's scalability and sustainability through its innovative technology and ecosystem support.

In 2021, the ConsenSys team proposed a SNARK-based zkEVM solution and officially launched the public testnet renamed Linea on July 19, 2023.

On October 8, 2024, the Chainlink Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) went live on Linea, enabling developers to create novel cross-chain applications while helping Linea move closer to its goals and increase ecosystem adoption. On October 30, Linea announced support for the cross-chain intent messaging standard ERC-7683, aiming to solve liquidity fragmentation issues and further advance seamless scaling for Ethereum L2.

On March 26, 2025, Circle announced the launch of native USDC on Linea. With native USDC, Linea developers and users gain stability from a regulated stablecoin; CCTP V2 automates through pegging, reducing transfer times on Linea to seconds. On July 29, Linea announced it would become the first Layer 2 network to implement the Ethereum burn mechanism at the protocol level, with the platform burning 20% of net transaction fees. Linea also released its token allocation plan, allocating 85% of tokens for ecosystem construction, including 75% for the development fund and 10% for early user incentives. On September 10, Linea will officially undergo TGE.

III. How is Linea's Pre-Market Trading Performing?

On September 1, 2025, trading platforms such as OKX, Binance, and Hyperliquid announced the launch of Linea pre-market trading.

As of the time of writing, Linea's pre-market trading price is not very ideal, quoted at $0.027.
Linea said in a blog post on Wednesday: "The LINEA token is also an economic coordination tool designed to reward actual usage, aligned applications and developers, and fund Ethereum's long-term development."

Declan Fox, Product Lead at Linea, said: "Linea’s tokenomics are designed for lasting impact, with 85% of tokens dedicated to growing the ecosystem, aiming to power the future of Linea and Ethereum. This airdrop, administered by the Linea Association, marks the start of a new chapter for Linea focused on community ownership and long-term success."
