China Meteorological Administration: North China Rainy Season Ends, Lasting 29 Days Longer Than Average

According to the National Climate Center of the China Meteorological Administration, the 2025 rainy season in North China ended on September 2, with both its duration and cumulative rainfall reaching record highs, making it the strongest rainy season since 1961.

Monitoring data from the National Climate Center shows that this year’s rainy season in North China began on July 5, 13 days earlier than usual, and ended 16 days later than average. The duration of the rainy season was 29 days longer than the annual average, tying with 1973 and 2021 as the longest rainy season since 1961. The cumulative precipitation during the season reached 356.6 mm, 161.1% higher than the average, setting a new historical record since 1961.

Spatial distribution analysis indicates that precipitation in areas such as Beijing, northern Tianjin, northwestern Hebei, northern Shanxi, and southwestern Inner Mongolia was 1 to 2 times higher than usual, while only局部 areas in southwestern Hebei and southwestern Shanxi experienced below-average rainfall. In terms of temperature, most monitored regions recorded higher temperatures than the same period in previous years, with an average temperature of 24.8°C, ranking as the fourth highest since 1961.
