International Industry: AI Infrastructure Frenzy – Google Invests Another $9 Billion in Virginia

Glenn Youngkin, the Governor of the U.S. state of Virginia, announced on Wednesday that Google will expand its investment in the state. By the end of next year, Google will invest an additional $9 billion to expand its cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Virginia.

According to the latest investment plan announced by Google on Wednesday, the tech giant will build a new data center in Chesterfield County, Virginia, and expand its existing campuses in Loudoun and Prince William Counties. Simultaneously, the company will provide AI talent job training for Virginia. Dominion Energy Inc. will support its power supply.

Governor Youngkin stated that this investment by Google aims not only to expand cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Virginia but also to promote AI talent cultivation. This includes helping residents master future-ready skills through the "AI Career Launch Pad." Furthermore, college students in the state can use the "Google AI Pro Program" for free for 12 months. Google will also provide AI training and job search assistance to local college students.

Google's further expansion of AI infrastructure investment reflects the investment frenzy among large tech companies, who are spending heavily to become "AI infrastructure maniacs" to avoid falling behind.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, during the earnings call following the financial report release, refuted the idea that the spending boom on AI chips is over. He stated: "A new industrial revolution has begun. The AI race is just starting. We anticipate AI infrastructure spending to reach $3 to $4 trillion by the end of 2030. This year alone, cloud computing service providers like Microsoft and Amazon, along with enterprise customers, are expected to invest $600 billion in capital expenditure for AI data centers."
