Number of China's Open Ports Reaches 311, Port Layout Continuously Optimized

The State Council Information Office held a press conference this morning (25th) titled "High-Quality Completion of the '14th Five-Year Plan'" series. Relevant officials from the General Administration of Customs introduced that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the port layout has been continuously optimized, and the construction of smart ports has accelerated.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the port layout has been continuously optimized, with 40 new or expanded open ports added. As of now, the number of open ports nationwide has reached 311.

Zhang Baofeng, Director of the Office of the Party Committee of the General Administration of Customs: There are now 125 water transport ports, handling over 90% of China's foreign trade import and export cargo volume; there are 85 air transport ports distributed across the country. Land ports exceed 101, and currently, more than 28 border ports in China can provide self-drive tourism services. Overall, China's port pattern of "east-central-west coordination and sea-land-air linkage" is increasingly完善.

In 2024, the import and export cargo volume of water transport ports nationwide exceeded 4.3 billion tons, an increase of 10% compared to the end of the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. Air ports grew by over 17%, and land ports grew by over 19%. Convenient and smooth port channels have accelerated the flow of more "Made in China" products to the world and allowed more "global goods" to quickly enter the Chinese market, better serving people's needs.

Strengthening National Quarantine Defense, Enhancing Port Prevention and Control Capabilities

At the press conference, relevant officials from the General Administration of Customs also introduced that since the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, customs have strengthened the national quarantine defense, initially establishing an all-weather epidemic monitoring network covering over 220 countries and regions worldwide.

Zhao Zenglian, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Customs: Since the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, customs have issued a total of 150 early warning notices and disease announcements involving 46 infectious diseases, playing the role of an "early warning system" for port epidemic prevention. We have conducted quarantine inspections for over 600 million inbound personnel. Additionally, we implemented health quarantine on 300 million inbound transportation vehicles, intercepted 5.25 million vector organisms, and effectively prevented the introduction of over 30 types of vector-borne infectious diseases.

Since the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, ports nationwide have newly equipped over 2,100 facilities and equipment such as rapid testing and gene sequencing, established more than 80 new standards, supporting "multi-disease prevention" through "multi-disease testing." Advanced methods such as electronic declaration, intelligent temperature measurement, and remote epidemiological investigation have been promoted and applied. Thirty ports have been evaluated by the WHO as International Health Ports, and port prevention and control capabilities have been comprehensively enhanced.
