Hong Kong SAR Government: Cross-border Private Cars Using Heung Yuen Wai Control Point Allowed to Cross via Lok Ma Chau Control Point Overnight

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government's Transport Department announced today (25th) that to facilitate cross-border private vehicles with quotas for the Heung Yuen Wai Control Point to cross outside its operating hours, the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong have reached an agreement. Starting from August 26, cross-border private cars holding a "Closed Road Permit" (permit) for the Heung Yuen Wai Control Point will be allowed to cross via the Lok Ma Chau Control Point between midnight and 6:30 a.m. daily.

A spokesperson for the Transport Department stated that this arrangement will help promote further integration between Guangdong and Hong Kong and enhance passenger clearance efficiency. The governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong will continue to maintain close cooperation to inject sustained momentum into the economic development of both regions.

The Transport Department has notified permit holders for cross-border private cars at the Heung Yuen Wai Control Point of this arrangement by letter. They only need to hold a valid permit for cross-border private cars at the Heung Yuen Wai Control Point to use the Lok Ma Chau Control Point during the specified period.

Currently, cross-border private cars holding permits for the Shenzhen Bay Port, Man Kam To, and Sha Tau Kok control points are allowed to cross via the Lok Ma Chau Control Point during overnight hours.
