Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The US Should Stop Sowing Discord and Creating Trouble Out of Nothing

On August 25, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun presided over the regular press conference. A journalist asked, according to reports, the Commander of the US Southern Command recently attended the South American Defense Conference in Argentina and claimed that China is "infiltrating the Western Hemisphere and plundering resources." What is China's comment on this?

Guo Jiakun stated that the US remarks are contrary to facts and a tired old tune, once again exposing the deep-rooted Cold War and confrontation mindset of some in the US. For a long time, China has adhered to the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, engaging in practical cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries in various fields. China-LAC cooperation meets each other's needs, aligns with the common interests of both sides, strongly promotes local economic and social development, and is sincerely welcomed by countries and people in the region. The US has for years spared no effort to interfere with and control Latin America and the Caribbean, with its hegemonic and bullying actions being all too evident.

Latin America and the Caribbean are not anyone's "backyard." China-LAC cooperation is not targeted at any third party, nor should it be interfered with by any third party. Countries in the region have the right to independently choose their development paths and partners. The US should stop sowing discord and creating trouble out of nothing, and instead do more practical things for the development of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
