Who will ultimately get the job?
So, who will finally win the coveted position of Federal Reserve Chair?
Experts say the outcome of the race to replace Powell is still unpredictable—Trump does not appear to be making a decision soon.
"There isn't great pressure for Trump to announce who it is at the moment. I don't think much will happen on this front in the coming weeks," pointed out Tang.
Although the expansion of the candidate list is surprising, analysts say they do not expect the final choice to be unexpected. Myrow noted, "I suspect the circle of top candidates remains relatively small."
In fact, over the past several months, almost every discussion about the next Fed Chair has inevitably revolved around the "two Kevins": Kevin Hassett and Kevin Warsh. The chances of anyone else on this 11-person list ultimately standing out still seem relatively slim.
"Trump seems to want an outsider for the Fed," pointed out Duy.
Of course, some industry insiders are still reluctant to rule out the possibility of U.S. Treasury Secretary Beshent becoming the next Fed Chair.
"My observation is that we should not exclude Beshent from the list of candidates. I know he has somewhat taken his name out of the running, and Trump really likes him as Treasury Secretary, but I think there is still a long time between now and when a final choice must be made," pointed out Tang of LHMeyer.
