Hungary Claims Russian Oil Supply Disrupted Due to Ukrainian Attack

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó posted on social media today (August 18), stating, "Due to Ukraine's attack on a substation of the oil pipeline leading to Hungary, Russia's crude oil supply to Hungary has been interrupted." Szijjártó mentioned that he had spoken with Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin, who informed him that repairs were underway on the attacked substation, but it remains uncertain when oil deliveries will resume.

Russia supplies oil to Hungary and Slovakia via the southern branch of the "Druzhba" pipeline, which transits through Ukraine. Currently, Slovakia has also confirmed that oil deliveries through the "Druzhba" pipeline have been suspended, though the exact reason is unclear, with only confirmation that it was "due to external factors."

In his post, Szijjártó accused "the EU and Ukraine of trying to drag Hungary into the Russia-Ukraine conflict for the past three and a half years" and emphasized, "This is not our war; Hungary will remain neutral." Szijjártó also concluded his post by "reminding Ukrainian decision-makers: electricity from Hungary plays a crucial role in your country's power supply."

Ukraine has not yet responded to these claims.
