$25 Billion in Additional Revenue in a Single Month
On August 11, during a White House press briefing, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the recent surge in tariff revenue from imported goods was a result of his administration’s trade policies, which have brought "hundreds of billions of dollars" into the country. He described the income as a "beautiful" cash inflow for the U.S. economy.
Trump pointed out that the latest fiscal data showed U.S. tariff revenue had reached a record high, exceeding $29 billion in July alone—the highest monthly figure this year. According to the "Customs and Specific Excise Taxes" statistics released by the U.S. Treasury Department on August 7, cumulative tariff revenue for the year has reached $154 billion. Trump emphasized that the additional $25 billion in revenue in a single month was proof that U.S. trade policies were working.
Trump: U.S. Economy Benefiting from Tariff Policies
During the briefing, he recalled that when officials reported the unusually high tariff revenue, he told them, "That’s from a place called tariffs." Trump added that the U.S. economy was benefiting from these policies, saying, "We’re doing well, really well."
Treasury data showed that U.S. tariff revenue rose steadily from $17.4 billion in April to $23.9 billion in May, further increasing to $29 billion in June, and hitting a new peak in July. These tariffs are paid by U.S. businesses to the federal government but are often passed on to consumers through higher product prices.
