On January 13 local time, the U.S. government approved NVIDIA's export of its artificial intelligence chip H200 to China. This decision is expected to resume shipments of the H200 chips to Chinese customers.
In December 2025, former President Donald Trump stated via social media that the U.S. government would allow NVIDIA to sell its H200 artificial intelligence chips to China. It is reported that the aforementioned sales to China will be subject to approval and security review by the U.S. Department of Commerce, which will also charge approximately 25% in fees from the relevant transactions.
Trump previously indicated that the U.S. Department of Commerce is finalizing the details of the relevant arrangements, which will also apply to other artificial intelligence chip companies, such as AMD and Intel.
NVIDIA's President and CEO, Jensen Huang, has repeatedly emphasized that China is a very large artificial intelligence market. In the next two to three years, the scale of China's AI market could reach $50 billion, and missing out on this market would be a significant loss. The United States must recognize that it is not the only country in the artificial intelligence race.
Additionally, in July 2025, due to the exposure of severe security issues, the Cyberspace Administration of China summoned NVIDIA for discussions regarding the security risks posed by vulnerabilities and backdoors in the H20 computing chip.
