Global Dialogue on Urban Sustainable Development Held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Global Dialogue on Urban Sustainable Development was held on the 3rd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Representatives from nearly 20 cities worldwide engaged in exchanges and shared experiences centered around the theme "Gathering Southern Wisdom, Co-creating a Green Future."

In her opening speech, Shen Xin, Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, stated that addressing climate change requires unity and cooperation from all parties. She expressed hope that all sides could build global consensus through multilateral dialogue, promote common development through practical cooperation, and empower youth to jointly create the world's future, adding that she looks forward to the wisdom of Global South countries illuminating the path of global green development.

Selwin Hart, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Climate Action, said that in recent years, countries have made positive progress in addressing climate change, but challenges remain, such as a lack of fair and just solutions and insufficient financing for many developing countries. He emphasized that there is a greater need now to enhance unity and cooperation to quickly translate the potential of Global South countries into reality.

This Dialogue was co-hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. The event featured three thematic discussions on the day: "Urban Climate Cooperation Creating Green Development Opportunities," "Regional Collaborative Innovation, Accelerating Energy Transition," and "Building Ecological Resilience Together, Deepening Climate-Adaptive City Construction." Representatives from eight Chinese provinces and cities exchanged views with representatives from cities in countries including the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Greece, Brazil, Argentina, and Morocco.

Established under the framework of the United Nations Climate Change regime, this Dialogue aims to build a platform for exchange and dialogue between Chinese cities and cities in other countries, to share global experiences, focus on the global future, and address global challenges.
