Trump Meets Carney, Again Hints at Annexing Canada
Canadian Prime Minister Carney, who is visiting Washington, held his second meeting with U.S. President Trump at the White House on October 7 local time since Carney assumed the office of Prime Minister.
The meeting lasted for two and a half hours. Canada hopes to reach some important consensus on bilateral trade and tariff issues, paving the way for the two countries to ultimately reach a new economic and security agreement.
While speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Carney listed some achievements of Trump's second term. When Carney said, "Most importantly in many ways...," Trump interrupted during Carney's pause, adding, "And the merging of Canada and the United States." Carney promptly responded, "I wasn't going that far."
For months, Trump has repeatedly publicly floated the idea of "annexing Canada" and expressed willingness to achieve this through "economic power."
