US Media: Boeing 777X Delivery to be Delayed Again, Potential Losses of Billions for Boeing

Bloomberg News, citing sources, reported that the latest estimated delivery time for the first Boeing 777X airliner has been postponed from 2026 to early 2027. The initial customers for the 777X, Germany's Lufthansa and Emirates Airlines of the UAE, have already adjusted the aircraft's entry-into-service schedule.

The Boeing 777X program was launched in 2013. Even if delivery were achieved in 2026, it would still be six years later than initially projected.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said in September that certification for the 777X was behind schedule due to a "significant amount of work" still remaining. He stated that there were no new technical issues with the program and did not hint at any delivery delays at that time.

Separately, according to an internal Boeing memo cited by AFP on the 2nd, the strike by employees in Boeing's military aircraft division, which began in early August, may continue for a considerable period.

Approximately 3,200 military aircraft assembly workers at Boeing's facilities in the St. Louis area of Missouri and in Illinois began striking on August 4th. The internal memo stated that, given the actions of the union leadership at the St. Louis area plants over the past weeks, the strike could last for several more weeks or even months. Consequently, Boeing has decided to initiate the second phase of its crisis response plan, which includes hiring more replacement workers and identifying additional tasks that can be outsourced.

Last year, Boeing's factories in the Pacific Northwest region of the US were shut down for over seven weeks due to strikes by more than 30,000 commercial division employees.
