NTD Weakens by 4.6 Cents Against USD on Monday as Market Watches US-Ukraine Meeting and Jackson Hole Symposium

In the Taipei forex market on Monday, the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) showed weakness against the US Dollar, consolidating near the 30.0 level. Market attention is currently focused on the meeting between US President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky in Washington, as well as the upcoming Jackson Hole Economic Symposium. The NTD/USD exchange rate closed at 30.056 on Monday, depreciating by 4.6 cents compared to the previous trading session. The intraday high was 30.006, while the low was 30.056, with a trading volume of USD 890 million.

Market analysts noted that due to the upcoming Trump-Zelensky meeting and the Jackson Hole Symposium this week, investors adopted a wait-and-see approach, keeping the NTD in a weak consolidation phase. The market is watching whether the NTD can stabilize above the key 30.0 psychological level.

Additionally, Federal Reserve official Mary Daly stated that two rate cuts this year are a reasonable expectation. Meanwhile, President Trump claimed that semiconductor tariffs would be announced soon, potentially reaching as high as 300%.
