Tesla Stops Supplying New Model S/X in Europe
According to observations by National Business Daily reporters, this adjustment follows Tesla’s earlier strategy in the Asian market. In April this year, Tesla China halted sales of new Model S and Model X vehicles domestically, while Tesla Japan had earlier announced the discontinuation of these two models for the Japanese market starting March 31, maintaining only inventory and used car sales. Currently, North America remains the primary market for Model S/X sales.
Notably, in June this year, Tesla unveiled a minor refresh for the Model S and Model X in the U.S., adding features like multi-color ambient lighting, new paint options, and updated wheel designs. However, prices for all Model S/X variants in the U.S. were also raised.
Currently, the Model S All-Wheel Drive and Plaid versions are priced at $84,990 (~¥610,000) and $99,990 (~¥719,000), respectively, while the Model X is priced at $89,990 (~¥647,000) and $104,990 (~¥755,000).
Behind this strategic shift lies Tesla’s declining delivery figures. Official data shows that from January to June this year, Tesla delivered 720,800 new vehicles, down approximately 12.7% YoY from 825,800 units in the same period last year—marking the largest YoY drop since 2022. By model, the Model 3 and Model Y remain the core contributors, with 697,500 units delivered in H1, accounting for 96.78% of total deliveries. Meanwhile, premium models like the Cybertruck, Model S, and Model X collectively delivered only 23,200 units, representing just 3.22%.
To address delivery pressures, Tesla is adopting a multi-pronged approach. On one hand, it is accelerating new product launches, including the Model Y L and Model 3+ single-motor long-range variants, with spy photos of the highly anticipated "budget Model Y" interior recently surfacing. On the other hand, it continues to roll out promotional policies. Reporters noted that Tesla China’s latest promotions, extending July’s terms, offer limited-time discounts across models.
Tesla’s China website shows that from now until August 31 (inclusive), customers purchasing a Model 3 or refreshed Model Y through a referral program can enjoy an ¥8,000 paint upgrade voucher. Additionally, buyers of any Model 3 variant during this period qualify for an ¥8,000 insurance subsidy, with select models eligible for interest-free loans over five years.
